The mission of the Federal Public Defender's Office is to ensure that the right to counsel,
guaranteed by the Sixth Amendment and the Criminal Justice Act (Title 18 United
States Code, section 3006A), is enforced on behalf of those who
cannot afford counsel and requisite defense services.
By
fulfilling its mission, the Office (a) fosters public confidence in
the nation's commitment to equal justice under law, and (b) effects the constitutionally-mandated
adversary system of justice
by which both federal criminal laws and federally guaranteed rights are enforced.
